Carriers charge by the larger of actual weight and dimensional weight (DIM) — the box's volume divided by a divisor. USPS uses 166; UPS and FedEx use 139. Product to Box: The Four-Step Measurement Chain

    Measure the product's outer envelope. Longest side, widest side, tallest point — including protruding parts like caps and handles.
